ECHO visit in the framework of DIPECHO IX in the Nicaragua Caribbean Coast

The last Thursday, 6th of November. I was in two communities (Wawa bar, Karata) in the RACCN (Region Atlantic Caribbean North Coast) in Nicaragua. The GVC team were there together with “Defensa Civil” , in order to give at the COCOPRED (Community Committee for the prevention, mitigation and attention to disaster) the local response plan with approach on climate change, which was created one week ago by this committee. The plan is made up of two parts, one is the document with all the relevant information related to prevention and mitigation, and the other one is the map, with its  the committee will be guided to act in case of  emergency.

On this visit, the  responsible for overseeing projects of the European Commission (ECHO) at Central America and the Caribbean, Arlen Cordero, made assessments of project progress by running GOAL (Honduras) and GVC (Nicaragua) within the framework of DIPECHO IX.

It was a good opportunity to know exactly how this kind of project  works, because one of the main DIPECHO objective is the prevention and preparedness of the communities.
