Evolution of the Voluntourist

The voluntourist is a very special kind of species; his evolution is the same all around the world.

It starts with an innocent wish: to do something ‘useful’, to ‘help’ whilst traveling. However rumors say that in some places, once the voluntourist arrives at his destination of choice, without realizing it, he is already trapped in a web designed by people disguised as ‘Good Samaritans’, only waiting to abuse his desire to do good.

At first a welcoming handshake and a big smile accompanied by a picture of a child and before he even knows it our voluntourist pays good money to spend some time with exactly that child.

Whilst our voluntourist feels really warm in his chest he nourishes the greed of his handshaking friend and maintains structures, which knowing they existed, he might refuse to support.

Some voluntourists slowly manage to see the whole picture; they weak up and turn towards those organizations with only the benefits of those in need in mind. Others stay in the mist or seek new experiences by other means. Whenever you find a voluntourist in the later state of evolution, paint him the real picture; help him find a way to truly fulfill his innocent wish, for the benefit of him and those he initially hoped to support.

There are organizations really serious, are distinguished fast, do not charge money.

VOLUNTOURISM YES, BUT ONLY WITH QUALITY.
